7 daily habits of engagement
Below is a list of 7 daily habits you can adopt to boost your engagement and foster conscious leadership.
They will engender a more engaged and productive workforce, starting with the only thing you can truly change – yourself.
Find a couple of minutes each and every day to articulate identifiable actions (those vital small achievable tickable targets that make change possible) for each of the 7 daily habits.
1. Choose how you want to feel about your job and what you are going to give to it each and every day.
2. Stop what you are doing and give your attention to the person you are talking with – they are more important than the task (or your smartphone)
3. Take time to find out what values each person holds – a coaching conversation can do this. Even when angry, a person’s values shine through.
4. Appreciate the person rather than the task when saying thank you. For example: “I appreciate your tenacity in sticking with this.” Rather than “You’ve done a great job.”
5. Develop a sense of ‘stretch’ for yourself and each member of your staff. Keep it under review. Engaged people are looking for high performance.
6. Avoid immediately giving an answer when a question can draw out an answer from the person.
7. Hone your coaching skills (they are not the same as giving advice) and need to be fully embodied by any manager.
